ECHOES OF FOLK
Inspirations In this trend theme we see another side of the Bohemian Moods, less upperclass or luxurious, more free-styled with echoes of Gypsy and 70ies Hippy moods, Eastern Europe, Balkan countries and Baboushka, Russian folk inspirations and more peasant and country life influences from Austria and ‘the Provence’ for example, or from the first pioneers moving from Europe to America; Amish people, Shakers and Quakers. Border decorations are very important in all these ‘cultural’ fashion expressions... is this a statement that we want our ‘borders’, and our ‘own’ lost culture treasures back for each and every country in Europe?
Colors and Fabrics The colors of the outfits here can be quite vivid in mixes for Gypsy, Hippy and Folk styles, but more often they will be down to earth in 2007 with neutral grayish browns, blues and darks with fresh milky and cream white contrasts at the same time, especially for country looks. Mixes of prints, almost patchwork-like, but never at random; often put together in large, wide panels; large, decorative exotic prints with oriental echoes, often as compose’s with border motives; 70ies Julie Christie model shawl prints. Colorful laces and embroideries with a folk spirit in the motives; strong, optic graphical and geometric rhythms with a folkloric spirit: inspiration for weaving, for jerseys and knitwear and especially for new seamless, for example with pre-programmed, fibre dyed design; craft with folkloric beads, applications and embroidery over prints; country-style prints; small, little flowers all over, sprinkled, or neat and strict, organised small stripes and flowers together (old fashioned wallpapers).
Silhouettes Silhouettes for dresses, skirts, camisoles here are quite loose and oversized; often slightly ruffled attached panel styling of garments combined with mixing of different prints and motives; for example, kneelength dress-like garments or skirts with romantic prints, worn over wide tartan checked trousers! Shawl-shaped designs as long, loose tops, in layers. Girly Hippy sportswear dresses; little jackets with print inside; prim, girly country-style Amish and Quaker inspired dresses worn over striped shirts, sometimes having plastrons and neat little details; apron-inspired dresses in layers over neat, sweet, fresh crispy white à-jour underdresses; neat camisoles with lace stripes and prints combined. |
